Help! I need a Logo.
When Considering a new logo, very few designers will create a deisgn out of thin air which will blow you away on first viewing.
Your new logo can do so much for you. Good logos engage, inform, identify(differentiate).
To achieve a good logo design many factors must be taken into account, not least of which are your personal preferences.
By considering the following you will certainly shorten the time taken , not to mention the list of wrong designs produced, to bring your ideas into reality.

Logo Design Brief
To get as close to your thoughts/ preferences on logo design you need to consider the following as completely as possible.
Your New Logo
Do you want a graphical(clipart/ drawing) ( VW, Merecedes, Audi, Pringles, Smile Colour Printing, Orange)
or pictorial(photograph) (O2 bubbles)
or textual(special font on special background) (eg Virgin/ BBC/ FORD/ Ebay/ Dell)
type of logo?
What are your colour schemes in mind?
Are you wanting to create something recognisable at a distance? (Think DYNO rod vans, distinctive colour)
Do you have any particular shapes in mind?
What logos do you like already and take inspiration from? List website names or business names.
Do you want to convey a young, hip, fresh image or is your brand more about portraying stability and establishment?
Do you want to convey a young, hip, fresh image or is your brand more about portraying stability and establishment?
Is your business name a very important part of your brand? (a really good logo can stand on its own even without the business name, example, Nike, BT, british gas, you don't need to see the name to know who it is )
When you have thought about these things, and are able to verbalise them to a designer, you will be equipping him/her to come as close as possible to your vision even before the process begins, and so avoid wasted time or what you think is bad design.
And when you've done this you wont be like the client who knows every time what she doesn't want, but is never quite able to express what she does!
Happy Thinking!!
